The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Corréra Issagha, emphasized on the will of Mauritania to transform the plant typha in charcoal and highlighted the difficulties faced by low-income families in rural areas to procure energy. The Minister took these remarks during a meeting he had Monday in Nouakchott with the Secretary General of Inter-State Committee for the Fight against Drought in the Sahel (CILSS) on a visit to Mauritania. The minister also stressed the importance of using energy alternatives to charcoal to reduce pressure on forest resources and to reduce their abuse by rural populations. Mr. Corréra Issagha said his department supports the initiative of CILSS to implement national strategies in the field of domestic energy at the state level members. The minister stressed the importance of establishing development projects of general interest for the benefit of rural people who act as on natural resources including forests. For his part, General Secretary of CILSS, Professor El Housseinou Protodou said that his visit to Mauritania is part of the awareness of government in Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea Bissau on the execution of national strategy on domestic energy.
